Cooling towers

A cooling tower is a heat exchanger that transfers "excess" heat from a building, industrial process, or power plant by cooling water.

It works by transferring heat from a water circuit to the air by evaporating water. Kelvion also offers “short on-site assembly times” and up to 25 MW of cooling capacity per unit. These modules are more efficient when there is limited assembly space on site.

Our engineers make custom modifications to meet your specific requirements. These cooling towers are mainly used in data centers and the cryptocurrency industry.

For larger cooling capacities, Polacel CMDI cooling towers with a capacity of up to 100 MW can be offered. Such cooling towers are mainly used in larger manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, hydrogen and oil refineries.

Air-cooled heat exchangers

We offer you a choice rarely found elsewhere – choosing between aluminum and steel fins in finned cooling systems. Both options have their own advantages.

Aluminum systems are significantly lighter, less sensitive to dirt and easy to clean. On the other hand, galvanized steel systems have a very long service life (up to 30 years), are particularly resistant to mechanical influences, such as hail, and provide optimal corrosion protection, just like aluminum.

Air coolers are used in fundamentally different and sometimes extremely complex environmental conditions. This is related to both production processes and climatic conditions. Designs are needed that meet these requirements at any time, as well as taking into account customer wishes. Our specialists design and deliver a wide range of devices for all industries. Multi-faceted experience and the ability to see everything that is possible allow us to create solutions that integrate perfectly into your industrial production.

Air-cooled condensers

Air-cooled condenser ACX

The ACX air-cooled condenser features a standardized and modular design that reduces the time from order to delivery, short payback period and lower capital costs. The modular design allows for pre-assembly of a large part of the structural components in the factory and/or on site, thus reducing construction time on site.

Choose from three different fan diameters: 24 feet, 28 feet and 32 feet, and combine up to four modules into an air-cooled condenser section, covering a range of heat removal rates from approximately 15 MW to approximately 90 MW.

The optimized V-shaped design with the forced-air fan at the top allows for a lower main structure and consequently a lower overall height and reduced energy consumption compared to classic A-shaped configurations. The mechanical drive (motor + gearbox) is located on the lower platform for easier access and maintenance during operation.

Air-cooled condenser A-frame

MASH system. The basic design of vacuum air-cooled condensers is based on the MASH concept. Steam is supplied to the condenser via a steam duct and a collector. The steam flows downwards through 2 or 3 rows of finned tubes. The condensate is collected in the cover collector boxes connected to the hot water tank. The non-condensables rise through the dephlegmation row for final condensation.

Single-row system. The single-row system consists of aluminum-coated flat steel tubes. Aluminum fins are brazed to the aluminum-coated flat tubes. The brazing metal, which fills the gap between the bottom of the fins and the tube core, ensures excellent heat transfer properties.

A-shaped pipe system. The system consists of an elliptical tube with rectangular carbon steel fins. Heat transfer is optimized by hot-dip galvanizing. The gap between the fin base and the fin is completely filled with zinc to achieve excellent heat transfer properties.

Adiabatic systems

In an adiabatic system, the energy of water evaporation provides air cooling. The adiabatic system provides air cooling in a dry cooler. Cooling of 10 °C can be achieved. Our solutions can be equipped with nozzles or pads and, depending on the conditions, can be ideally adapted to your needs. They ensure safety at high ambient temperatures, optimized water use and better performance.

Hybrid cooling system

There are a variety of solutions available worldwide to suit all types of extreme conditions, from cold to very hot climates. Factors such as the maximum temperature required by the process and the availability of water will influence which cooling system to choose. Kelvion has expanded its range and developed an innovative hybrid cooling system to meet your needs with the most energy and water efficient solution.

The hybrid cooler offers 2 different cooling modes: Dry mode, where heat is exchanged with the ambient air through its sensible enthalpy.

In wet mode, the system humidifies the coil and utilizes the sensible enthalpy and its latent enthalpy, taking advantage of the adiabatic effect where air evaporates water. This allows the system to operate at ambient air temperatures that are significantly higher than the process fluid outlet temperature.

A hybrid solution can further reduce the footprint compared to an adiabatic system, but the water consumption is significantly lower compared to a cooling tower.

Exhaust gas heat exchangers

Heat exchanger made of alloyed stainless steel, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 550 °C. Its compact and modular design makes it extremely versatile and easy to maintain. The heat exchanger (EGHE) is designed to recover heat from exhaust gases emitted, for example, by internal combustion engines used in combined heat and power plants.

The heat exchanger transfers heat from the exhaust gases to a liquid (water or a water-glycol solution). Once heated, this liquid can be used in central heating systems; to heat air in the combustion chambers of furnaces and turbines; to dry coal, cellulose, wood and other materials, as well as to generate electricity using the Rankine process.

Closed Circuit Coolers

Closed-circuit coolers are designed to meet customer requirements and ensure precise adherence to their operating specifications. Our finned systems improve heat transfer to the pipe system and allow for low material consumption without sacrificing performance.

The standard line includes a wide range of different material combinations for pipes, fittings, tube sheets, chambers, etc.: e.g. copper, aluminum (AE), CuNi10, CuNi30, various types of stainless steel, as well as titanium.

Compressor coolers / pressure gas coolers

The performance of efficient compressor systems can be significantly increased by using special compressed gas cooling technology. The same applies to drive technology, process engineering and gas recooling.

Our line of compressed gas cooling systems covers the main market needs for gas volumes from 5,000 to approximately 500,000 Nm³/h at pressures up to approximately 50 bar. It includes water-cooled compressed gas coolers for industrial gases such as air, oxygen, chlorine, carbon dioxide, helium, hydrogen, gaseous hydrocarbons and gas mixtures. The revolutionary AFC compressed gas technology significantly increases the reliability of compression, air separation and process technology equipment.

Desublimators

Desublimation is a thermodynamic method for separating a product from a gas stream, an alternative to adsorption and absorption. The separation is carried out by cooling and heating in batches. It is used, for example, in chemical and pharmaceutical processes, to protect vacuum pumps or to ventilate tanks. The separated component can be a valuable raw material or environmentally hazardous.

In the desublimation unit, the gas mixture comes into contact with cooled lamellas. Here, that part of the gas mixture to be separated desublimates either around or below its triple point and adheres to the cold surface in crystalline form. The desublimation unit is divided into several sections so that the product is optimally distributed inside the desublimation unit. This special design feature ensures the highest separation efficiency and the longest charging time.

K°Flex

K°Flex plate heat exchangers are the perfect solution for gaseous, liquid and two-phase media in the chemical, petrochemical and energy industries. With a temperature range of -200° to 550° C and a pressure capacity of up to 100 bar, this heat exchanger is the logical choice for trouble-free operation.

The asymmetric plates of the K°Flex plate heat exchangers form flow gaps that resemble pipes and waves. On the pipe side, high flows can be handled with minimal pressure drops. The wave side is characterized by high turbulence and excellent heat transfer coefficients. Heat transfer with maximum efficiency and low pressure losses. The K°Flex heat exchanger design is based on standardized plate modules and housings with freely selectable connection lines. Standard sizes of 2,500 m² and customized solutions up to 12,000 m² can be manufactured. K°Flex is characterized by low investment costs, as the compact design requires only relatively few materials.

Shell & Tube Double Safety

Double-tube protective heat exchangers play an important role in applications where it is essential to prevent media mixing in the event of a leak. They are widely used and are recognized as the standard in the chemical industry, energy, heavy and light industry, oil and gas, shipping, transportation, refrigeration and food and beverage sectors.

Unlike a standard shell and tube heat exchanger with a single-wall construction, the tubes of the double-tube safety models have two walls, consisting of an inner and an outer tube. They also have two tube sheets at each end. If the tube wall is damaged, the product flows through the leakage channels located between the double tubes into the leakage collection space and triggers an alarm in the leak detection device. Since the second tube wall remains intact, the media are kept separate. This means that the operator of the plant can continue to use the heat exchanger until the next maintenance, avoiding expensive unplanned downtime.

Kelvion double tube heat exchangers can be made of different materials or combinations of materials depending on the application and the medium. The inner tube is usually plain, while the outer tube has a fluted profile on the inside. This ensures that the two tubes are in contact for optimal heat transfer.

Coils

A wide range of heat exchanger modules with different tube diameters, tube patterns, fin profiles, materials and variants allows adaptation to any specific application and fluid: air heaters, air coolers, condensers and evaporators for HVAC and various industrial applications. Kelvion heat exchanger modules are manufactured from copper or stainless steel tubes and aluminum or copper fins.
